What the 2026 NGER Amendments Mean for 2026-2027 Reporting

The Australian Government has released amendments to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (Measurement) Determination, reflecting outcomes from the public consultation conducted in April 2026 through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s NGER Consultation Hub.

The NGER Measurement Determination is updated annually to incorporate:

  • Revised emissions and energy factors
  • Improvements to emissions estimation methodologies
  • Clarifications to reporting requirements

At Trinity Consultants, we view these updates as an important opportunity for NGER reporters to understand what has changed and assess the potential implications for future reporting obligations.

Key Amendments Introduced in June 2026

The amendments include changes relating to:

  • Renewable fuels, including co-processed liquid fuels
  • Fugitive emissions from coal mines and oil and gas operations
  • Methane emissions from landfills and wastewater handling
  • Scope 2 emissions and associated emission factors.

Notable amendments include:
