From Disclosure to Competitive Advantage: Leveraging the Power of Life Cycle Assessment
In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, environmental data across an organisation’s value chain plays a critical role in strategic planning and decision making. To date, life cycle assessments (LCAs) have predominantly been used to generate Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). EPDs provide businesses with an industry standard for conveying information regarding the environmental impacts associated with the manufacture of products. Through thoughtful implementation and use of modern data management technologies, the effort and investment put towards developing LCAs can be leveraged to support deeper analysis and strategy development.
As Australia looks to reduce its emissions under the Safeguard Mechanism and industry evaluates strategies to avoid the financial burdens of exceeding their baseline, the drivers are increasing for understanding the environmental impacts associated with an organisation’s entire value chain on an ongoing basis. An ever-current and fully transparent enterprise-wide LCA model provides an exceptional diagnostic tool for companies to evaluate the environmental and financial impacts associated with process changes (e.g., low carbon transition strategies) to maintain economic viability and market competitiveness.
During this luncheon, Trinity Consultants will introduce their new approach to life cycle assessment (LCA) and environmental sustainability strategic advisement through their collaboration with CarbonGraph, a next generation LCA platform. Trinity will introduce the following aspects of this approach to managing environmental sustainability:
- Full transparency and collaboration with subject matter experts during the LCA modeling process
- Creation of an LCA model covering enterprise-wide operations
- Enhanced data quality and accuracy facilitated by an AI-enabled modelling software and integration with existing data systems and material primary data sources in the value chain
- Digital integration with program operators’ platforms to allow for third-party verification of the LCA model
- Generation of various disclosures including facility-specific EPDs, product carbon footprints (PCFs) and other metrics (e.g., CBAM reporting) with varying system boundaries
- Leveraging the LCA for scenario analysis to assess the environmental and financial impacts of potential future case process changes and/or product design options
- Maximising efficiencies in operations and managing sustainability across the value chain
Trinity will provide an overview of these aspects of their service offering and will also provide a demonstration of the CarbonGraph LCA tool.
