The position
We are seeking a highly experienced acoustic engineer with hands-on experience and industry knowledge in architectural and building acoustics projects, and in designing a range of spaces including commercial buildings, hospitals, hotels, performance spaces, educational facilities and residential developments.
The successful candidate will have a broad and deep experience in analysing design elements and in applying fundamental acoustic engineering principles to optimise acoustics parameters including room acoustics, sound isolation, noise and vibration control to meet the design intent and to provide cost effective and practical solutions.
Experience as a subject matter expert to provide guidance on architectural projects and audio visual design would be advantageous.
You will take the lead in acoustic services, engaging with existing clients and developing new opportunities. You will also have a passion for continuous learning and growth, and a vision for and experience in mentoring and managing a team of consultants to boost staff engagement, facilitate team success and deliver excellent service to our clients.
You will be based in our South Brisbane office (Eat, Drink, Shop, Play and Stay – Visit Brisbane); however, your projects may take you from inner city skyscrapers to beaches, from regional areas to busy construction sites, and a whole lot more in between. As part of a global consulting firm, there may also be opportunities for involvement with projects in the USA and in the UK.

The successful candidate
Our successful candidate will have:
- A degree in engineering relevant to acoustics
- At least ten years’ experience in acoustics including building acoustics and environmental noise
- Demonstrated experience in bidding/tendering,and business development including technical presentations to industry and strategic management of services
- Strong collaborative skills and experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team and to manage teams across geographical boundaries
- A track-record in engaging with clients and recommending cost-effective and practical solutions to meet design intent
- Deep understanding of legislation, standards, planning policy and guidelines related to acoustics
- Experience with noise modelling software such as CadnaA, Soundplan, INSUL, Zorba, Fantech
- Demonstrated capabilities in managing multiple projects, planning and delivering quality technical reports and in providing peer technical reviews
- Membership with Engineers Australia and/or the Institute of Acoustics or equivalent
- CPEng / RPEQ / MIEAust / MAAS certification or similar
- Willingness to live in Brisbane
- Preferably, a light vehicle driver’s licence.
