Occupational corrosive exposure assessment

How we helped

Trinity investigated rapid corrosion occurring on structural materials and tools at a transport facility.

With no known sources of corrosive compounds from onsite activities and considering the industrial operations nearby, Trinity identified specific substances and sources that were potentially contributing to the onsite corrosion.

To determine the atmosphere’s corrosivity at the site, Trinity conducted standardised measurements of deposition rates for the identified airborne corrosive substances. This methodology confirmed that the site areas nearest to the likely sources, where excessive corrosion was observed, were exposed to a moderate level of corrosivity potential.

Given the potential occupational health impacts on onsite workers, Trinity assessed the airborne concentrations of the primary corrosive substances. By using a more sensitive ambient method for continuous monitoring, Trinity concluded that the levels of corrosive substances at the site were within the recommended workplace exposure standards, assuring that the corrosion does not pose substantial health risks to onsite workers.

About the project

The facility provides an essential service to the regional community as a vital component of the transport network and by improving connectivity. It includes onsite maintenance, operations management, and amenities. It is surrounded by dozens of medium and high impact industrial uses.
